About Me
A life-long passion for helping and healing others has led me to pursue a career in counselling. I started my career wanting to be a school guidance counsellor but felt that I should first gain experience working with children. With an undergraduate degree in Sociology paired with an Early Childhood Education Diploma, I began working with children and at-risk youth.
This led me to pursue further education in the field of mental health and addictions. Many of the children I worked with were exposed to drugs and dangerous activities due to peer-pressure. I went on to work in the field of addictions, working with both the inner-city population and in the private sector. It was there that I really understood the meaning of “meeting clients where they’re at”.
Everyone has a different journey and different circumstances. This solidified my “client-centered approach” to counselling. After venturing into psychotherapy, I went on to adopt cognitive behavioural therapy, dialectical behaviour therapy, and narrative therapy as my main approaches, but I continue to learn about and use other modalities based on what will best help the client.
My combination of a compassionate and non-judgemental approach, and various life and career experiences sets me apart. Additionally, as someone of South Asian origin, I understand the anxieties and hardships that come with attempts to balance the duality of the North American lifestyle with opposing cultural norms. These experiences shaped my worldview and ability to understand the importance of mental health support in cultures where it's not given priority. I am dedicated to developing my skills in the field and I continuously strive for improvement.
